Sponsored Ride

Posted at 12:37 PM on September 10, 2009

Hiya,

As you are all aware as a club since last year  we have organised a sponsored ride. Last year raising over £800 on a last minute ride!

This years chosen charity is Scropton Riding for the Disabled for which the ride takes place on 3rd October 2009 at Shipley Country Park more details of which can be found on our sponsored ride page.

However a number of club members have enquired as to whether we could hold our sponsored ride for another charity therefore as a club we are asking for suggestions as to which charity you would like the ride to be held for next year?? So get thinking and posting....... (to post click on the word comments)

Many Thanks,

Springwood Riding Clubsmile

I think that the P.I.C.U and QMC is a fantastic idea they are an individual unit in the hospital they often get over looked for charity donation which is a real shame as they have private rooms for example for parents to live in, sometimes for months on end and have to try and but things in to make these rooms as home from home as possible and more often than not its only the parents or these poor sick children that donate things like kettle toaster iron etc of which even now they have not even got one to each room and need extra mocrowaves etc. It would be wonderful to be able to donate money or these such items, as, sometimes after a stressful day on the ward with your child haing chemo, blood test, lumber punctures etc, the parents dont wans to use the things in the communal kitchen and just want some tome alone. Please Please consider this worth while cause. Thanks for reading this Rachel and DEMI

I should like suggest the P.I.C.U. at QMC. Ellie Storer, a member of Springwood was recently diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. Due to the severity of her illness she'd have lost her fight for life had it not been for the P.I.C.U. Ellie spent 10 days on the unit prior to being moved back to ward E38.
Ellie is responding well to Chemo and is hoped to make a full recovery in time. Unfortunately, we wont now be at presentation nite due to being in hospital. Have a great nite! Alison & Ellie

I have read through all the suggestions on your blog and agree that all are really worthwhile charities. I think that Springwood Riding Club is a very generous club to devote time and effort in putting on a ride like this and wish you all well for whatever charity you choose. I think that the RDA charities are extremely worthwhile and being of an equestrian nature would appeal to your members, if you did support the RDA though there is another RDA centre near Tansley which don't receive the same publicity that Scropton do and I am sure they would appreciate your help and support. I do also agree that the Air Ambulance is extremely worthwhile and even though it maybe should be paid for by the Government, it isn't at the moment and any one of us might need their services. My belief is that it's better to have the service funded by charity than not at all, so would certainly advocate an event for supporting the Air Ambulance. What about splitting the proceeds of your ride between 2 charities??

How about doing it for one of the cancer charitys such as treetops hospice or macmillan?? Personally speaking both do a fantastic job and are incredibly worth while charities as cancer can effect anyone.

To be honest, I don't really think much of the air ambulance idea. I work in a hospital, near to the peak district. I agree that the air ambulance does a great job, but don't feel that it's funding should be on a charity basis. The primary care trusts (NHS) should provide air ambulance in the same way that they provide any other ambulance. By funding them through charity events we run the risk of the service being poorly controlled, vulnerable and geographically localised. The government should pay, not charities.

As a worker on a children's ward, dealing with children who have disabilites and learing difficulties, I would much rather see the money from the sponsored ride continuing to support riding for the disabled. I know what a hard time these youngsters and their families have, and how much it means to them to have some fun!

Hiya,

I think the air ambulance would be a good choice for the charity next year it's only fair to all the charitys out there to alternate it as they all do a fantastic job its hard to choose, however as somebody has already mentioned the air ambulance could be needed at anytime by any of us and was needed at Long Eaton earlier this year bringing it to the for front of our minds what an important and crucial job they do.

The sponsored ride sounds great. The air ambulance is a good cause anyone of us might need them. We have been following them on TV this week they assist all sorts of people and attend all sorts of accidents.

Hi All,
I heard over the grape vine that you were thinking of changing your charity this year. I personally think this would be a real shame as scropton is such a fantastic place and does so much for so many.

I know from experience how scropton can change lives, as they helped one of the foster kids i work with find her passion for riding and working with horses, and this new drive has helped her to get her life back on track. Scropton gave her something when she had nothing!

i've also seen the numerous parents who bring their severley disabled children to scropton, this is sometimes the only bit of pleasure they get all week, and many parents struggle to afford it! I know scroptons donations have significantly reduced since the credit crunch hit and i would hate to see such a wonderful establishment go under for lack of finance. I know that every little bit of money is greatly appreciated and used wisely.

I really hope you will consider keeping scropton in your thoughts when you decide on this years charity and thankyou so much for all the previous donations, i believe they have been put to fantastic use.

ps. a big thanks to all the volunteers at scropton who make it such a fantastic place!

What about the Air Ambulance? They rely entirely on Charity to operate and assist all sorts of people, riders, motorcyclists etc etc.

How about the Blue Cross Equestrian Centre at Rolleston on the Dove (near Tutbury). They do an excellent job rehousing companions and breaking and retraining anything that can be to give the ponies a rewarding second chance at life.

Welcome
